Bio Disc and VIA Disc NP: Understanding the Differences
Bio Disc and VIA Disc NP:
Understanding the Differences
Physicians treating patients with discogenic back pain continue to look for minimally invasive options that may help appropriate patients avoid or delay more invasive procedures.
VIA Disc NP has helped bring significant physician attention to intradiscal biologic procedures. However, changes in the reimbursement environment have caused some practices to reevaluate how they approach these procedures.
Bio Disc provides physicians with another option to evaluate.
Two Different Approaches
Although Bio Disc and VIA Disc NP may be used in similar clinical settings, they are not the same product.
VIA Disc NP is a processed human nucleus pulposus tissue allograft designed to supplement a patient's native nucleus pulposus tissue.
Bio Disc takes a different biologic and matrix-based approach to intradiscal treatment.
Rather than viewing one product simply as a replacement for another, physicians should understand the differences in tissue source, composition, clinical rationale, patient selection, procedure economics, reimbursement considerations, and available supporting evidence.
Why Physicians Are Looking at Alternatives
The reimbursement environment surrounding intradiscal procedures continues to evolve.
For practices that have incorporated VIA Disc NP—or have considered adding intradiscal procedures—these changes can affect:
Patient access • Practice economics • Site of service
Reimbursement strategy • Procedure selection
Bio Disc gives physicians an additional option to evaluate as they determine how intradiscal procedures may fit within their practice.

The Important Question Isn't Simply "Which Product Is Better?"
The more useful question is: Which approach makes the most clinical and economic sense for your practice and your patients?
TRIAD Advanced Directions works directly with physicians interested in understanding Bio Disc, including the product, procedure, patient selection, coding and reimbursement considerations, and implementation within their practice.
Already Familiar With VIA Disc NP?
If you've performed VIA Disc NP procedures—or previously considered adding them to your practice—we can provide a straightforward physician-to-physician discussion of how Bio Disc differs and what those differences may mean for your practice.
