A Biological Solution for the Intervertebral Disc

• Bio Disc is a placental matrix allograft designed to provide a protective barrier around the nucleus pulposus while supporting the integrity of the annulus fibrosus.

• Bio Disc provides circumferential coverage of the nucleus pulposus (NP) and is composed predominantly of Type I and Type III collagen. Its structural composition is described as homologous to the native annulus fibrosus (AF).

Understanding the Disc

• The intervertebral disc is designed to absorb and distribute forces throughout the spine.

• At its center is the nucleus pulposus (NP), the hydrated portion of the disc responsible for helping distribute load.

• Surrounding the NP is the annulus fibrosus (AF), the strong outer structure that contains and supports the nucleus.

• As a disc undergoes injury, intervention, or degenerative changes, the relationship between these structures can be disrupted.

• Bio Disc is designed to address this environment by providing coverage around the NP while supporting the structural integrity of the AF.

What Is Bio Disc?

• Bio Disc is derived from donated human placental tissue and provides an extracellular structural matrix.

• Rather than replacing the nucleus pulposus, Bio Disc is designed to provide a protective barrier surrounding it.

• Its predominantly Type I and Type III collagen composition provides a matrix that the manufacturer describes as structurally homologous to the native annulus fibrosus.
